Our Team Story

In a city where history and progress meet, where every corner whispers the stories of those who have fought for justice, a new symbol of strength and unity in women’s football has emerged: The Atlanta Truth. This team was conceived from a desire to compete and a deep commitment to the values that define the city of Atlanta.

 

At the heart of this story is Cameron Rhode, a passionate investor who spent his childhood in Alpharetta, GA, just outside the vibrant city of Atlanta. 

 

His passion for service and commitment to equality naturally led him to the world of women’s sports, where he saw immense potential but significant inequities. As a long time fan of the WNBA, he envisioned a platform where women athletes could be celebrated not just for their talent but also for their leadership and influence, a place where they could thrive and inspire future generations.

 

When the opportunity arose to create a new team in the Women’s National Football Conference, Cameron was convinced that this was the perfect way to fulfill his passion for professional women’s sports. 

 

The name "Atlanta Truth" was chosen to honor the city's deep connection to the civil rights movement, where truth was wielded as a powerful tool against injustice. Just as Atlanta has always stood at the forefront of social change, the Atlanta Truth will lead on the field, representing the courage, determination, and unity that the city is known for.

The team’s mascot, an owl, serves as a constant reminder of the team’s commitment to truth in gameplay and impact on the community. The owl’s watchful eyes and silent wings symbolize the team’s dedication to being vigilant, strategic, and wise in its pursuit of victory, while staying grounded in the core values that have made Atlanta a beacon of progress.

As the Atlanta Truth takes to the field, they carry with them the legacy of a city that has always fought for what is right. They are more than just a football team; they are the embodiment of Atlanta’s heart, a testament to the power of truth!
